$ 1 million from Russia: Trump's assistant lawyer may be returned to custody

Lev Parnassus is suspected of trying to secure the resignation of Marie Jovanovic from the post of American ambassador in Kiev in the interests of a Ukrainian official.

According to TASS, the prosecutor’s office of the Southern District of New York on Wednesday, December 11, asked the court to return to custody of the American businessman Lev Parnassus, who carried out the instructions of Rudolf Giuliani, the lawyer of US President Donald Trump, in Ukraine. As follows from the petition received in the electronic database of the court, Parnas allegedly withheld the receipt of $ 1 million from Russia.

Parnassus was detained in October. The prosecutor's office charged him and a number of other persons with charges, in particular, of violations during lobbying activities. Parnassus suspected of trying achieve resignation Marie Jovanovic from the post of American ambassador in Kiev in the interests of a Ukrainian official. Parnassus claimed that at the direction of Giuliani, he persuaded the Ukrainian authorities to initiate an investigation against former US Vice President Joseph Biden and his son. Giuliani admitted that Parnassus carried out some of his instructions, but emphasized that they concerned only the search for materials that justify Trump in the light of allegations from political opponents.

Soon after his arrest, Parnassus was released on bail, he is allowed to leave his house only to attend court hearings, meetings with a lawyer and to participate in religious rituals. On December 4, the entrepreneur’s lawyers asked the court to allow their client to leave their house for several hours every day. The prosecutor's office opposed this and demanded that Parnassus be returned to custody.

The petition of the prosecution emphasizes that Parnas allegedly received in September 2019 of the year a money transfer from Russia in the amount of $ 1 million. For what needs, it is not specified. He was also sent large sums from Ukraine.

According to representatives of the prosecutor's office, the entrepreneur did not mention this in the documents relating to his release on bail. As the petition emphasizes, “there is a high risk that Parnas will attempt to escape.”

Representatives of Parnassus previously stated that he was ready to testify as part of the impeachment procedure trump.
