200-meter cruise ship crashes into pier in Turkey
The 200-meter-long cruise ship Celestyal Journey crashed into the pier of the Turkish port of Kusadasi on April 15 after a desperate attempt to slow down, reports Dailymail.
The crew miscalculated the speed and approached the pier too quickly, which led to the collision.

The crew members, trying to slow down the liner, even lowered the anchor. But, despite their efforts, the ship still crashed into the pier.
The collision caused only minimal damage to the ship and the pier.

Passengers were still able to enjoy their day in Kusadasi, one of the best preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world, as planned.
The cruise port, with eight berths for large ships, is the most popular in Turkey. Officials say the incident did not have a negative impact on his work.
Celestyal Cruises did not have to change itineraries following the incident.

Celestyal Journey entered service in 1994 and initially operated on the Holland America Line under the name Ryndam. Celestyal Cruises, a Cypriot cruise line, purchased the cruise ship last year.
It has 630 staterooms, including 149 with balconies, and offers guests access to seven exclusive restaurants, as well as eight bars and lounges.
Celestyal Journey is currently operating seven-night cruises in the Aegean region until the end of October 2024.
