In California, there was a mass shooting at a railway station: 8 people died
In San Jose, in one of the Bay Area's most massive shootings, a Transportation Department official opened fire early on May 26 on a light rail station, killing eight people. The shooter was also killed. Writes about it Mercury News.
Sheriff Laurie Smith, who is headquartered near the train station, said police entered the building as the shooting continued.
“We have some very brave officers and sheriff’s deputies,” Smith said.
Explosive devices were also found in the building, and specially trained dogs warned about them, Smith said. Detachments of sappers were at the scene.
About 100 VTA employees were transported from the sheriff's office to a large auditorium across the street in the county administration. They were told not to speak to reporters, but one worker in VTA uniform said he was shocked to the core.
“The whole brigade was killed, the whole shift was killed,” he said, declining to say how many people it was. - It's horrible".

Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a tweet that his office "is in close contact with local law enforcement and is closely monitoring this situation."
The first reports of the shooting came around 6:34 am.
Some of the victims were VTA employees, sheriff's spokesman Russell Davis said. The mother of one of the employees said the shooting happened at a union meeting. It is unknown whether the fire came from inside or outside, Davis said.

VTA provides buses, light rail and paratransit services and is a financing partner for regional rail services including Caltrain, Capital Corridor and Altamont Corridor Express. According to the chairman of the board, the mass shooting took place at the VTA repair site, where the cars are sent, and not at the organization's operations center. Today VTA will stop light rail traffic, but will continue to operate buses.
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo tweeted just after 8 a.m. that several people are undergoing treatment. Liccardo also said that "the shooter is no longer a threat" and that the facility has been evacuated. The two men affected by the shootout were taken to Valley Medical Center in San Jose, one dead on arrival and the other in critical condition, Valley Medical spokeswoman Joy Alexiu said. There were no details about their condition.
This seems like a weird takeaway from the San Jose mass shooting.

Michael Hawkins, 19, stood behind a yellow police tape, hoping to see his mom, Rochelle Hawkins. Earlier that day, she called her son on a colleague's phone to say that she was okay.
“When the shooting started, she came down with her colleagues and dropped the phone,” he said. He said she didn't see the shooter and didn't know how close she might have been to tragedy. “She was terrified.”
According to Raj Singh, financial secretary for the local 265 Amalgamated Transit Union, which represents VTA, the shooting occurred at the busiest time of the day at a maintenance facility as operators and workers prepare for daily maintenance.

Singh said the shooting did not occur at an official meeting of ATU unions, as those meetings are taking place in the union hall in Campbell. He said he received calls from shocked employees and family members who were unable to contact their loved ones.
“It’s unspeakable,” he said. “You hear about it happening somewhere else and you think it would never happen here.”
Shortly before the shooting, the house of a VTA employee, who may be associated with the shooting, caught fire. There are many police officers and sappers at the scene of the fire. There are no details about this fire yet.
