President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said on the evening of April 7 on the Ukraina TV channel that he was waiting for his opponent in the second round of the presidential election, Vladimir Zelensky, for the debate on April 14 at the Olimpiysky stadium in Kyiv.

“On April 14, next Sunday, I’m at the Republican Stadium, exactly where Mr. Zelensky proposed, waiting for him to hold a debate. I think 19 or 20 hours would be the optimal time. I invite both viewers and all channels so that the debate can be held as Vladimir Zelensky wanted, in order to prevent him from moving away from this proposal,” Poroshenko emphasized.

Zelensky responded to this by saying that the debate would take place at the same Olympic Stadium on April 19:

Earlier, the date of the debate between Poroshenko and Zelensky was not called. But according to the law, they had to go no less than three days before the second round of the presidential election in Ukraine, which is scheduled for April 21.

Vladimir Zelensky laid out a sentence about the “stadium debate” on Facebook on April 3. At the same time, as a condition for participation in the debate, he wrote that “candidates must undergo a medical examination and prove to the people that there are no alcoholics or drug addicts among them,” and also suggested Poroshenko “publicly say that the debate will not take place with a Kremlin puppet or Kolomoisky, not with a quilted jacket, not with a Little Russian, not with a cattle, not with a clown, but with the presidential candidate of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.”

Injured on this first stated, that “the rules of debate are prescribed in the law on presidential elections”: they can only take place on the basis of Public Television with broadcast on all television channels. “But the stadium is a stadium. I’m waiting for you, Vladimir Alexandrovich,” the President of Ukraine said a little later.

The head of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Tatyana Slipachuk, after an interview with Poroshenko on the evening of April 7, once again stated that official debates between candidates for the post of President of Ukraine “can only take place in the studio of the Suspilniy TV channel.” She emphasized that the relevant resolution of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine indicates the address of the debate venue - st. Yuri Ilyenko, 42 in Kyiv.

“That's where the debate should be. These are television debates that must be held in accordance with the law,” Slipachuk noted.

Last week, after the challenge “to the stadium” was accepted, Poroshenko and Zelensky already passed tests on the use of drugs and alcohol, as suggested by Zelensky.
