What you need to know about the procedure for confirming Russian citizenship
When applying for a passport to Russia, Russians abroad may face such an incomprehensible for many procedure as “proof of citizenship of the Russian Federation”, which is often carried out by Russian consular offices.

The letter said that they forwarded this appeal to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. After some time, we received from there a fairly complete answer №27061 / cd-gr from 23.11.2016, signed by the Deputy Department Mr. Frolov.
From the answer it follows that the procedure for confirming citizenship is carried out in the absence of a person's documents confirming the citizenship of the Russian Federation as a result of their loss, damage or theft.
Simply put, if you, say, spoiled your passport or accidentally lost it, in order to get a new passport at the consulate, you must go through the procedure specified in the response of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The period for the procedure for the confirmation of citizenship of the Russian Federation is not regulated by time. The procedure requires a written statement of the person in any form.
All regulations that govern this procedure: Section 51 “Provisions on the procedure for considering issues of citizenship of the Russian Federation”, 62 Federal Law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation” and already known to many President Decree of the Russian Federation No. 1325 of 14.11.2002.
