In New York, the number of bilingual schools has increased: list

In New York, they are expanding programs in which students will learn in two different languages, among which are Russian and Hebrew.

Mayor de Blasio and the chancellor of the schools Richard Carranza announced this on the first day of applying for Pre-K and 3-K for the following year.

Bilingual classes consist of 50 percent of children whose mother tongue is the target language of the program, and 50 percent of schoolchildren who speak English. Instructions will be given in both languages.

47 new programs will include French, Haitian, Creole, Hebrew and Japanese programs Pre-K.

At the start of the 2019-20 school year, there will be 107 programs in all five districts, which is more than three times the original 30 in 2015.

Mayor de Blasio said: “By offering even more Pre-K bilingual programs in five districts, we are preparing our children for the global economy of the future.”

Programs will be conducted at 103 schools, pre-schools and early education centers.

6 new programs will appear in the Bronx, 16 in Brooklyn, 8 in Manhattan, 16 in Queens and one on Staten Island.

School Chancellor Richard Carranza said: “More children from New York will start to become multilingual, multicultural and ready for success in our diverse world.”

In addition to new programs in French, Haitian, Creole, Hebrew and Japanese, schools will continue to offer programs in Bengali, Chinese, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

There are currently 12 bilingual programs for K-545 students.

Full-day applications for 3-K and Pre-K are open from Monday, February 4. Families can apply online at MySchools.nyc, by calling: 718-935-2009 or in person at the Family Service Center.

All New York families with children 2015 of birth year can apply for free.
