A 7-year-old boy who started complaining of pain in his jaw found 526 teeth in his mouth. About it CNN reported the hospital in india where he was undergoing treatment.

The boy was hospitalized last month due to swelling and pain near the molars in the lower jaw on the right.

When the doctors x-rayed their mouth, they found a cavity in the lower part filled with “wrong teeth,” said Dr. Pratiba Ramani, head of the oral pathology department of the oral and maxillofacial areas at the dental board and Saveetha Hospital.

An operation to remove teeth was carried out last month.

After discovering the cavity with the teeth, the Ramani team took four to five hours to empty the cavity and confirm its contents - hundreds of teeth.

“There were 526 teeth in total, ranging in size from 0,1 millimeters (0,004 inches) to 15 millimeters (0,6 inches). Even the smallest piece had a crown, root and enamel covering that indicated a tooth,” she said.

According to Ramani, the boy was discharged three days after the operation and, as expected, he will fully recover.

The doctor added that the child suffers from a very rare disease - a compound odontoma. The cause of the disease may be genetics or environmental factors, such as radiation.

Parents told doctors that they noticed swelling of the jaw when the child was three years old, but could not do anything. The boy would not let the doctors examine him.

Dr. Sentilnathan, head of the department of maxillofacial surgery at the hospital and one of the two surgeons who operated on the boy, spoke in detail about this procedure to CNN.

“Under general anesthesia, we drilled out the top of the jaw,” he said. — We did not break the bone from the sides, that is, reconstruction surgery was not required. The cavity with teeth was removed. Think of it like a balloon with little pieces inside.”
