Thousands of prisoners started to be released in the USA because of coronavirus

The authorities of the states of California, New York, Ohio and Texas also decided to prohibit the admission of visitors to prisons, to restrict the movement of prisoners in the territory of correctional facilities.

In New York, 30 prisoners were additionally isolated with suspected coronavirus.

According to experts, more than 164 thousand people over the age of 55 are held in American prisons. The staff will not have a real opportunity to help them in the event of a further stay in prison if they become infected. There are no additional places for isolation of patients.

The authorities assured that there was no question of large-scale liberation. Only those who have not committed serious crimes will be released.

According to the latest data as of March 24, there are 50 thousand infected in the United States. By the number of cases, the country ranks third in the world, after China and Italy. More than 600 people died. Most of the victims recorded in the states of New York and Washington.
