Lilibeth "Lily" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born at 11:40 am on Friday June 4th at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California. Its weight was 3200 grams.

The family said in a statement that both the mother and the girl are doing well. The baby is already settling in the family home.

Why Lilibet?

They decided to name the second child of the Prince and Duchess of Sussex Lilibet in honor of the home name of Queen Elizabeth II, the great-grandmother of the newborn.

Lilibet, the Queen's family nickname, was coined when the then-Princess Elizabeth was very young and could not pronounce her name correctly.

Her grandfather, King George V, affectionately referred to her as Lilibet, mimicking her own attempts to pronounce her name. It soon caught on and she has since become a Lilibet for her family.

The Queen's late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, also called her by her pet nickname and wrote to his mother-in-law after their wedding: "Lilibet is the only thing in the world that is absolutely real to me."

Lilibeth's middle name, Diana, was chosen in honor of her "beloved late grandmother," the Princess of Wales, the statement said.

Lily's cousin, Princess Charlotte, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, also has Elizabeth and Diana in her name.

Lily is the Queen's 11th great-granddaughter and eighth in line to the throne.

A thank you message on the couple's Archewell website said: "We were blessed with the arrival of our daughter Lily on June 4th."

“She means more to us than we could ever imagine and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have received from all over the world. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this special time for our family,” the couple said in a statement.
