More than one hundred cases of rare paralysis disease confirmed in the USA

The disease is quite rare and is manifested in the fact that children suddenly have weakness or paralysis due to inflammation in the spinal cord. Cases of the disease were detected in the 31 state, according to an update on Monday from the CDC.

More than 90 percent of patients are children, the agency said. In most cases, patients had mild respiratory illness before developing the disease.

Symptoms may include sudden weakness of the limbs, loss of muscle tone and reflexes, lowering of the face and eyelids, difficulty in eye movement, difficulty in swallowing or slurred speech, according to the CDC. In severe cases, patients may experience difficulty breathing due to muscle weakness.

This condition can be caused by a virus, a genetic disorder, and environmental toxins.

Last week, the CDC announced the creation of a task force to investigate the causes of the disease and find the best treatment for patients.

In 2017, the 16 case was registered in the 33 states. 149 cases were reported in 39 states in the 2016 year and 22 cases in the 17 states in 2015 year.
