In North Carolina, the 11-year-old son of a nanny shot and killed a little girl whom she was looking after

An 11-year-old boy from North Carolina shot and killed an 8-year-old girl with a pistol from a relative, who was looked after by his mother. He could be charged with manslaughter, reports New York Post.

The 11-year-old was taken into custody on August 11 for allegedly shooting Genesis Dockery in the head in Fayetteville on July 25. Genesis arrived at the house an hour before the incident, where the teenager's mother was supposed to look after her.

Genesis was rushed to the hospital, where she died two days later.

The boy has yet to be charged, but investigators believe there is enough evidence to charge him with manslaughter and theft of a firearm.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office filed paperwork with the Juvenile Justice Department to prosecute the boy. They also seek detention.

He is currently in a temporary detention center for minors.

It is not yet clear if charges will be brought against any of the adults involved.

According to Genesis Von Dockery's father, Dockery and her sister, who were there on the day of the shooting, were supposed to be looked after by the teenager's mother.

The boy allegedly stole the weapon from a safe in the house, Harry Daniels, the Dockery family's lawyer, told a news conference. In photographs posted on social media before the shooting, the boy was seen holding a gun.

Daniels also said that the boy knew the combination of the safe.

The Dockery family describes the deceased as "a joyful, energetic child with Jesus in her heart and a smile on her face" on the GoFundMe page.

“My daughter’s life was tragically cut short,” Fon said. “It pains me to think that I am in a situation where I have to console my youngest daughter.” It was a terrible nightmare that still doesn't seem real. The daughter wanted to dance and just live. She loved making TikTok videos.”

At Dockery's funeral, the family wore orange badges that symbolize awareness of gun violence.
