Model afraid to post on Instagram after Ukraine war photo got her in trouble

Supermodel Paulina Porizkova recently clarified why she is taking a break from posting professional photos on her Instagram. Writes about it New York Post.

The former supermodel took to Instagram on August 1 to share a close-up selfie taken first thing in the morning with a long caption.

“One of the reasons I've been posting a lot of my own content lately is because I'm scared. What, you ask? Court. Again,” she began her post.

In 2022, the former 1980s supermodel shared photos of the war in Ukraine on Instagram with her 1,1 million followers.

“The fact is that last year, when I wrote about the horrors in Ukraine, I used photos that I found on IG. Six months later, a law firm sued me on behalf of a certain photographer. As it turned out, I used the photo of this person without his approval and without payment for the use, ”she explained.

“Before this incident, I didn’t even realize that reposting photos from the Internet is illegal. My images are used all the time, and if a person is not trying to sell something with the help of images, then I thought it was normal. It turns out no,” the model admitted.

She noted that "there are law firms that do nothing but scour social media for dumb people like me who have enough subscribers to pay."

Porizkova shared that the parties "settled out of court" because "despite her best intentions, they were right."

“I used an unauthorized photo, even if it carried the message I thought the photographer was trying to convey – war is evil. And it turned out to be an expensive mistake,” she admitted.

The 58-year-old warned her followers that they "may unfollow" her as she plans to post private photos in the future.

“For those of you who don’t mind, thank you for coming with me on this journey called life.” I am so grateful to you! - she concluded. “Yes, this is what I look like in the morning.”

Porizkova's post drew comments from other professional photographers.

"This is nonsense. I am also a photographer and I would never stoop to sue someone for using one photo without my permission,” commented one user.

However, another agreed with the lawsuit: “If we are talking about photos of Ukraine in wartime, then it will be a photojournalist who risks his life to take these pictures. Photographers do not and should not work for free. Years of experience and knowledge are invested in each image.”

Since posting Porizkova earlier this month, she has shared a few new selfies, but not a single professional shot.
