In California, the police shot a black rapper who fell asleep in a car with a gun
Six police officers from the city of Vallejo (California) 9 February shot the local 20-year-old rapper Willy McCoy, known under the pseudonym Willie Bo.
At the time of the incident, McCoy was dozing in a car near the Taco Bell diner. The police said that they had arrived at the call of an employee of the establishment, who near 22: 30 noticed a car parked next to the restaurant. In it, as the caller told the police, was "a man leaning on the wheel," writes TJ.
The arrived policemen decided that the man lost consciousness. At the same time, he had a pistol on his lap, a car was turned on, and the doors were locked. The policemen decided they needed reinforcement. When it arrived, McCoy, as stated in the police report, "suddenly moved." The police asked him to keep his hands in sight, but McCoy, according to the report, "quickly reached for a gun." Then six policemen began shooting at the rapper, "fearing for their safety."
On words The brother of the deceased David Harrison, the police shot at Willie 20 times. The police did not specify how many shots were made.
After the shots, the police tried to provide medical assistance to McCoy, but he died at the scene. A pistol lying on his lap was seized, according to a police report, the weapon was loaded.
Officially, the police have not yet revealed the identity of the rapper, but his family identified him. Relatives of the musician claim that the police killed McCoy because of racist prejudices.
“The police didn’t even try to find a peaceful solution. The job of the police is to arrest people who break the law, not to enforce the law themselves. You are not judge, jury or executioner. We will never get over this,” said the victim’s older brother, Mark McCoy.
According to Harrison, Willie just came under the existing tip-off on black men, including because he was dressed as a rapper.
