Trump Demands $ 60 Trillion In Compensation From China Due To COVID-19

Trump, a leading GOP figure, said the communist regime should be held accountable for its role in the spread of the coronavirus.

“China has to pay, they have to do something,” Trump said.

“They have to pay compensation, and China has no money to pay these reparations,” he said.

Trump argued that if the worldwide damage from the coronavirus is correctly estimated, China is likely to owe more than $ 60 trillion.

"I believe that worldwide, I'm not just talking about the United States, but worldwide, it's $60 trillion in damages," Trump said.

"China does not have $ 60 trillion, but they need to do something to compensate for what they did," he added.

“What they have done to the world is absolutely terrible,” Trump added. “It’s been terrible all over the world, and it doesn’t stop.”

According to Johns Hopkins University, the COVID-19 pandemic shook the global economy in 2020 and is responsible for over 5,3 million deaths worldwide.

Chinese health officials discovered the new coronavirus virus in November 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.

Beijing officially reported the virus to the World Health Organization in December of that year.

The delay gave the outbreak time and seriously undermined the possibility of introducing quarantine measures, according to global health officials.

Although the origin of the virus is still unclear, the evidence indicates that a laboratory accident at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology cannot be ruled out.

The theory, once criticized by Democrats as "xenophobic," has recently become popular in the public health community.

“I think the origins are so obvious,” Trump said. “I think that if anyone thinks otherwise, he is simply deceiving himself.”

In May, nearly 20 of the country's top scientists published a letter in the academic journal Science calling for further investigations into the origins of the virus.

“Theories of accidental laboratory release and zoonotic spread [that is, transmission from animals to humans] remain viable,” the scientists wrote.

The Chinese government, for its part, has denied leaking the virus from its Wuhan facility.

A March report from a group of international virus experts failed to establish the origin of the coronavirus during a visit to China.

But the head of the World Health Organization, which assembled the team, criticized the Chinese authorities for restricting access to researchers and questioned the WHO group's rejection of the theory of laboratory origin.

“I don’t think this assessment was broad enough...” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“While the team has concluded that a lab leak is the least likely hypothesis, this requires further investigation, possibly with additional missions involving specialist specialists, which I am prepared to deploy,” he added.
