US Cancels Interviews On Certain Immigrant Visas
US consulates announced that some immigrant visa applicants no longer need to go through a personal interview. Consular officials may decide that the personal presence of the applicant is not necessary, but this only applies to those who replace immigrant visas, and do not receive new ones. This is stated on the site US Department of State.
The rule applies only to those applicants who received visas no earlier than August 4, 2019.
Immigrant visa applicants who meet the following criteria may not be required to appear in person at the consular officer for interview, application and oath of office if:
- immigrant visa was issued on or after 4 August 2019
- you receive an immigrant visa of the same classification and in accordance with the same approved petition as the previously issued immigrant visa
- you receive an immigrant visa according to the same approved petition as a previously issued visa, but in a different classification because it was automatically converted, for example, due to the death or naturalization of the applicant on a previously issued visa
- the circumstances that could affect the applicant's eligibility to obtain a visa have not changed

Applicants who meet these criteria can contact the consular section that issued their previous immigrant visa to inquire about their eligibility for this innovation.
Applicants may be required to submit new DS-260 applications, provide any required updated documents, undergo a physical examination, and pay application processing fees. Please note that applicants who meet these criteria may still be invited to face-to-face interviews.
