USCIS Changes Requirements for Immigration Medical Examination Certificate
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) temporarily canceled the requirements regarding the doctor signing the Immigration Medical Examination (I-693 “Medical Examination Report and Vaccination Records”) no more than 60 days before the applicant files the application with the agency. This is stated in a press release from USCIS.

This interim measure will help applicants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and associated processing delays. Temporary permission for applicants to apply, even if the doctor signed it more than 60 days before the filing date, will allow people to complete the application process without having to go through another immigration medical examination if all other requirements are met.

The move will play into the hands of the many Afghan citizens evacuated as part of Operation Allies Welcome who received an immigration medical check but were unable to apply for a status adjustment within 60 days after that.

The interim rule came into force on December 9, 2021 and will remain in effect until September 30, 2022. It applies to all forms related to basic immigration applications, including I-485, application for registration of permanent residence or change of status.
