Trump sues California over 2020 election: what the president wants
U.S. President Donald Trump and GOP file lawsuits against California over the law adopted there. In accordance with it, candidates for presidency of the United States must mandatory publish their tax reports in order to participate in the California primaries.
The Trump administration considers the law signed by State Governor Gavin Newsom unconstitutional, as it sets requirements for presidential candidates beyond what is established by the US Constitution.

At the same time, California law only applies to state-run preliminary intra-party elections, and does not apply to federal voting.
A lawsuit demanding that the law be incompatible with the constitution was filed by Trump's personal lawyers in a court in Sacramento. A similar lawsuit was also filed on behalf of the Republican Party.
One of the lawsuits calls the law "an open political attack directed against the sitting president."
This is the first such law passed in the United States. Earlier, other states controlled by the Democrats tried to pass similar bills, but so far have not succeeded.
California is the most populous state and important to both major U.S. parties, and passage of the law would mean that Trump, who has already announced his intention to run in 2020, would have to release his tax returns or face a severe blow to his chances of winning.
On the subject: How is the US tax system after the Trump reform?
Trump's enemies explain his unwillingness to present tax documents in different ways. One version says that he is not at all as rich as it seems, and does not want the people to know about it.
Another possibility is that the president remains the beneficiary of a number of commercial companies, which creates a conflict of interest.
There are now lawsuits between the state of California and the Trump administration in approximately 40 lawsuits, mainly related to environmental protection and migration.
As ForumDaily wrote earlier:
- Recall the democrats long ago trying to get official information about the taxes of the president. According to The New York Times, in October last year, Trump received from his father’s real estate company at least 413 million for assistance in avoiding taxation in the United States.
- Last year, a petition demanding the release of Trump's tax return scored more than 620 thousands of signatures. Note that every US presidential candidate has published its tax returns since 1976, but the law does not require this.
- In May, the 2019 State Senate voted for demanding that those who appear in the state’s primary ballot as presidential candidates publish their tax returns for five years, writes USA Today. This proposal was a response to the fact that Trump violated the 40-year tradition by refusing to show tax returns before his election in the 2016 year.
