The White House’s immigration proposals contain items for granting citizenship to immigrants who have entered the United States as children (DACA), allocating $ 25 billion for the construction of the border wall and other security measures, writes USA Today.

The plan of US President Donald Trump also provides for a massive reduction in family-based immigration programs, as well as the termination of the visa lottery, Trump Adviser Stephen Miller said.

According to Miller, it is expected that the new plan will be supported in the Senate and thanks to him there will not be a “filibaster” (deliberately delaying and disrupting the vote) and stopping the work of the government next month.

The issue of granting citizenship to immigrants who entered the United States as children was one of the most controversial. The president made various inconsistent statements about this. But on Wednesday, the president said he was ready to consider the issue of citizenship for the so-called "dreamers."

“If they do a good job, then I think after many years it would be great to be able to become a US citizen. This could happen after a certain period of 10 to 12 years,” Trump said.

The plan outlines four issues that the White House insisted on being included in the immigration strategy:

"Dreamers". The bill will provide an opportunity to obtain citizenship for those migrants who arrived in the United States by children. According to Miller, this bill can affect up to 1,8 million people.

As Trump noted, immigrants who are eligible to apply for citizenship may face a process that takes 10-12 years.

Border security. The White House proposed to create an investment fund of $ 25 billion to build a wall along the border between the United States and Mexico.

This question was a stumbling block during the discussion in Congress. Democrats opposed the construction of the wall, but Trump said the following: “If we don’t have a wall, then we don’t have a DACA.”

The plan also provides for increased security at both the southern and northern borders.

Chain migration. The plan restricts the immigration practice of “nuclear families”, and will affect spouses and minor children.

Visa lottery. The visa lottery will focus on attracting and highly skilled people on the basis of family kinship. After these slots are filled in, the visa lottery will be completely terminated, Miller said.
