A freshman at the University of Maryland died from complications from adenovirus, the same disease that killed 11 children at a rehabilitation center in New Jersey.

18-year-old Olivia Paregol was in her first semester when she developed a cough that later developed into pneumonia. 18 November girl died in the hospital of John Hopkins, writes The New York Post.
“The sweetest girl you'll ever meet. She was a wonderful person with a beautiful soul,” said her father Jan Paregol.

The university reported the death of a student in a letter addressed to students and staff of the institution. The campus also confirmed another 6 incidence of diseases caused by adenovirus. One of them is associated with 7 adenovirus, a more dangerous strain.
Adenovirus can cause colds and pneumonia, but some strains can lead to more serious diseases, especially in people with weakened immune systems.
Olivia Paregol faced complications from adenovirus because the medicine she took to fight Crohn's disease weakened her immune system.
Ian Paregol said that he was trying to find out if his daughter’s condition had worsened due to the mold that was found on campus this fall.
He also believes that the university should have informed Olivia’s doctors about other cases of adenovirus infection earlier, in which case there was a possibility that the girl would have found the virus earlier.
“If they had known a week earlier, I think there would have been a different result. We did not know that there were other cases of adenovirus infection,” Paregol said.

Adenoviruses usually spread from an infected person to other people through close contacts; by airborne droplets or by touching an object or surface with adenoviruses on them.
