Typically, millions of people from all over the world apply to participate in the lottery, and about 55 thousand receive green cards. And although at first glance the math seems pretty simple, in fact, the chance of getting a green card depends a lot on what country you were born in.

How high are the chances of winning

The chances of getting a green card vary from year to year depending on the number of participants and requirements. Each region of the world receives a certain number of green cards. The average chance to win the lottery is from 1:25 to 1:75 depending on the region and year (for Europeans, recently about 1:45), writes The American Dream.

How many received green cards in post-Soviet countries

Residents of post-Soviet countries always participate in the lottery in the hope of finding the "American dream" and learning a new culture. It is clear that not everyone wins. The winning percentage depends on many factors. For example, how many immigrants have already arrived in the US on other visas.

Data for 2017 year approximately show the chances of winning for applicants from different post-Soviet countries.

В Armenia 96 people applied for participation, 389 were selected, of which 1669 eventually received visas. The chance of winning, according to these data, was 1566%, and 0,69% of the total number of applicants received a visa.

518 inhabitants Kazakhstan became winners, but received 460 visas in the end. A total of 27 applications were submitted. The chance of winning is 661%, and the visa acceptance rate is 1,87%.

Of all the post-Soviet countries, it is Kazakhstan and Armenia that have the highest level of obtaining visas.

В Azerbaijan out of 38 applications, 557 winners were determined, 470 of which received a visa. The chance of winning was 434%, and 1,22% received a visa.

Of Belarus 70 applications were received, 266 were selected, and 899 people received a visa. The chance of winning is 801%, and the percentage of obtaining visas about the total number of applications is 1,28%.

В Georgia out of 44 applications, 258 won, and 680 received a visa. The chance of winning is 548%, and 1,54% of the total number of applications received a visa.

В Moldova there were 154 applicants, 453 people became winners, and 1762 received a visa. The chance of winning is 1369%, the level of issuing visas from the total number of applications is 1,14%.

Although Ukraine in second place in terms of population among the post-Soviet countries (after Russia), its residents quite actively participate in the lottery and occupy the second position in terms of the number of applications - 970. Of these, 193 were victorious, of which 4500 received visas. The chance of winning is 2040% and the visa issuance rate is 0,46%.

Of of Russia, whose population is 3 times larger than in Ukraine, 161 applications were submitted. The winners were 107 people, of which 2290 received visas. The chance of winning is 1812% and the visa issuance rate is 1,42%.

People Of Uzbekistan are also among the leaders and occupy third place in the overall ranking in terms of the number of applications submitted - 876, of which 875 became winners, and 4501 received visas. The chance of winning is 3199%, the visa issuance rate is 0,51%. Uzbekistan is third in the ranking in terms of the number of visas issued to the United States.

But Ukraine and Uzbekistan have the lowest chances of winning, which is quite logical given the number of applicants.

The first place in terms of the number of applications (1) is occupied by the African country of Ghana with a population of 953 million.

And in Israel out of 14 applicants, 094 winners were selected, of which 127 received a visa. The chance of winning was 34%, and the percentage of obtaining a visa from the total number of applicants was 0,90%.

Residents of Fiji (7,07%) have the highest chances of winning, New Zealand is in second place (4,68%), and Australia closes the top three (4,07%).
