Presidential Day: 20 Thousands of People Will Become New US Citizens
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services on Presidential Day, which is celebrated annually on the third Monday of February, will issue about 20 thousands of passports to new citizens.
More 180 naturalization ceremonies are reported on the site officewill be held from 12 to February 22 in different US cities.
President's Day was originally celebrated on the birthday of the first head of state, George Washington, February 22, but in the 70s of the last century, Congress established a single holiday in honor of all former US presidents.
“Whatever their political views, all of our presidents have recognized that the United States could not succeed without the contributions of immigrants,” said Citizenship and Immigration Services Commissioner Leon Rodriguez.
As part of President's Day 2016, there will also be a naturalization ceremony at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate in Virginia. Since 1960, it has been designated a US National Historic Landmark.
