Passenger Lyft killed a pregnant female driver to steal a car
In the suburb of Phoenix, a passenger Lyft killed a pregnant female driver, then hijacked her car and drove almost 240 km, after which he was arrested near the border with California.
According to police, 39-year-old Christina Hovato was in the third trimester of pregnancy. She has two small children, writes AP.
20-year-old Fabian Durazo was arrested and detained in the prison of La Paz County on charges of two first-degree murders and one allegation of abduction and armed robbery.
Early in the morning, Christina Hovato went to the call, receiving a request for a trip from the Western Pace. Supposedly, Durazo attacked Hovato when they arrived at a residential complex about 800 meters from the landing site, and disappeared into her SUV.
Officers responded to a call at an apartment complex around 1:30 a.m. after a caller reported a woman screaming in the parking lot. It turned out that Howato suffered multiple puncture wounds. The woman was taken to the hospital, where both she and the unborn child died.
Arizona State Department of Public Security officials used GPS tracking and found a stolen SUV on the 10 interstate near Quartz site, approximately 40 kilometers from the Arizona-California border. On Sunday afternoon, Durazo was arrested.
The police said that Durazo and Hovato most likely did not know each other. The motive of the assault and the murder remained unclear.
“Throughout our careers, we have had cases that touch our hearts and stay with us,” police spokesman Ron Alcock said at a news conference. “This is definitely one of those incidents.”
Lyft officials said: “We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear about this tragedy. Our thoughts with the family and friends of the victims. "
