In a popular resort, a hotel with hundreds of tourists isolated due to coronavirus

Hundreds of hotel guests in Tenerife, including at least two Russians, were locked up after one of the guests, an Italian doctor, revealed a coronavirus, writes Air force.

The doctor came on vacation from Lombardy, where there was an outbreak of coronavirus.

In total, the number of people infected with this virus worldwide exceeded 80 thousand people, most cases were reported in China.

On Monday, WHO warned of the need for more thorough global preparations for a possible pandemic. And although the number of deaths according to available data does not exceed 1-2%, doctors believe that the present mortality rate is not yet known.

Meanwhile, the outbreak of the coronavirus continues to have an impact on the global economy: after London and New York, a drop in stock prices has also been noted on Japanese exchanges.

What happened in Tenerife?

According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, citing police sources, the medical service of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, ordered a survey of all guests of the four-star H10 Costa Adeje Palace Hotel, located in the southwestern part of the island.

One of the hotel guests posted on Facebook a photo of a note that was slipped under his room door on February 25.

“It is with great regret that we have to inform you that due to medical reasons, the hotel is closing,” the note said. “You are required to remain in your rooms until further notice from the medical authorities.”

The Spanish media report that compliance with this order is monitored by security services that do not allow guests to leave the hotel.

Later, one of the guests told the BBC that guests are allowed to move around inside the hotel.

"We can see from the window security officers and about 50 hotel workers gathered in front of the entrance," another tourist, Christopher Betts, told Reuters.

According to him, nothing is reported to the guests and no medical checks have been carried out yet.

Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in the Canary Islands Gonzalo Parada told TASS that at least two tourists from Russia are in the hotel.

“One couple contacted us, they arrived on February 21 and were supposed to leave on February 29,” Parada said, adding that he had no information about whether there were any other Russian citizens among the hotel guests.

Meanwhile, an Italian doctor who was diagnosed with a coronavirus on Monday was quarantined at a local hospital. There he undergo additional tests to make sure that he is really infected with coronavirus. It is known that he was in a hotel with his wife.

Italy has the highest number of coronavirus infections in Europe - 231 people. Last weekend, the country's authorities announced a series of emergency measures in an attempt to contain the epidemic.

In several small cities of Lombardy and Venice, quarantine was introduced: in the next two weeks, about 50 thousand people will not be able to leave their homes without special permission.

Even several important football matches will be held this weekend in empty stadiums.

What is happening in other countries?

China on Monday announced another 508 cases of infection. Most of them are in Wuhan. In total, more than 77 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have already been registered in the country, 2663 people have died.

In South Korea, 10 people died from the coronavirus, the number of infected reached 977. The US government recommended that its citizens, without emergency, not visit South Korea.

Japan has confirmed more than 850 cases of infection. Most of them are in quarantine on the Diamond Princess cruise ship; four people from this ship have already died.

In Iran, three more people died from the virus, there, according to state media, the total number of deaths reached 15.

Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, have imposed restrictions on flights in an attempt to slow down the spread of the virus.

The United States plans to spend $ 2,5 billion on the fight against coronavirus, allocating funds for quarantine, vaccine development and assistance to the states affected by the epidemic. In total, 53 cases of infection have been identified in America so far.
