Democrats reject Trump deal: will shutdown continue

Democrats said Trump's proposal had "no compassion for federal workers."

Democratic Party members criticized US President Donald Trump, who offered his solution migration problems, the differences over which partially suspended the work of state bodies in America.

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, even before the president’s speech, said that Trump’s proposal was “not a viable option.”

“Unfortunately, it is clear from the communications that his (Trump’s) proposal is a compilation of previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable, and which as a whole did not constitute a fair proposal that could restore confidence in people’s lives,” the congresswoman said in a message.

After Trump's speech, Nancy Pelosi noted that the president's speech showed "no empathy for the federal workers who face such uncertainty due to the chaos caused by the Trump shutdown."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also reminded Trump that the shutdown is hurting a lot of people in the US:

“Unfortunately, Trump continues to offer one-sided and ineffective solutions.”

Steny Hoyer, leader of the democratic majority in the US House of Representatives, commented on Twitter:

“The President must stop holding the government hostage and end the shutdown so federal workers can get back to work serving the American people.”

He also noted that after the resumption of work of the government in the United States, the parties will be able to begin negotiations to strengthen border security in the country.

In turn, Republicans came out in support of Trump and his proposals. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell wrote that he "appreciates the President's leadership in putting forward such a bold proposal to reopen the government."

Republican leader in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy commented on Trump's Twitter offer:

“Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer now need to stop resisting and start working with Republicans to implement these proposals.”

The president himself called his proposal “a reasonable compromise that both parties should accept.”

Recall that trump promised to extend the status of certain categories of migrants in the United States in exchange for funds to build a wall on the border with Mexico.
