The text of the law does not indicate the exact amount of payments, but only states the need to “provide compensation to federal and other government employees affected by the government shutdown.” Last week, this initiative was approved by both chambers of the US Congress.

Since December 22, the US government has partially suspended government operations due to the lack of budget funds. A quarter of the state apparatus was without financing: nine ministries with 2018 thousand employees, of which 800 thousand were sent on unpaid leave. The rest continue to work without a salary for 380 days.

Partial government closure has been going on for more than three weeks and is officially considered the longest shutdown in US history. The reason for this was the failure of Republicans and Democrats in Congress to agree on budget parameters. The key disagreement is the issue of building a wall on the border with Mexico. Trump insists on allocating $5,7 billion for these purposes. Democrats are ready to approve only $1,3 billion.
