Physicians in Florida can now refuse to treat a person based on their religion or other beliefs
Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed four pieces of legislation he says will protect Florida residents from medical prescriptions such as masks and vaccines during pandemics. The edition told in more detail WFLA.
He says that, taken together, the list of bills he signed into law on May 11 is the strongest medical freedom legislation in the country.
SB1580, the "medical conscience" law, provides health care providers and insurers with new rights, including the ability to refuse to provide services or pay for certain health care services based on personal opinions.

“We want our doctors to practice evidence-based medicine. We don't want to just follow the crowd," DeSantis said.
The policy gives insurers and health care providers the ability to deny health care services that are contrary to their moral, religious or ethical beliefs.
The law was met with strong criticism from the LGBTQ+ community.
“These things are dangerous because the unintended consequences of many of them are life and death for the people of Florida,” said State Senator Shevrin Jones.
Jones, Florida's first openly gay state senator, is concerned that the law could lead to medical discrimination.

“It will make people start going around looking for a doctor who is willing to help them when they need it the most,” Jones added.
Opponents are already considering challenging the law in court. The law comes into force on July 1.
