According to Zion and his mother, everything happened after two girls got off the bus in front of the boy, they headed further down the street, and at the moment when Zion had almost left the bus, the doors slammed shut, holding his backpack.

“She pulled the lever and I was trapped and fell,” Zion said of the woman who was driving.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol believes the bus dragged Zion about 10 feet (3 meters), by which point he was able to remove his backpack and escape the trap - at which point the rear tire of the bus ran over the child.

"This is very painful. There were tire marks on my hand. My veins turned red,” Zion says.

The driver is accused of negligence and negligence while driving.

Although Thomas does not consider the incident to be deliberate, she is certain that the driver was negligent.

“She was just supposed to watch the kids. You looked at these girls and did not think about the safety of my boy. No, you just said you thought about it, but didn't check to see if Zion was out. You don’t get paid to think,” says the boy’s mother.
