Tighter quarantine: US restrictions on movement

The White House has published recommendations on the fight against coronavirus, urging Americans not to gather for informal meetings with more than 10 people.

“We make recommendations,” Trump said at a press conference in the White House. - We have not yet reached this stage, when we need to oblige people to stay at home. It may happen, but we have not reached this point yet. ”

Trump also said that there is no need to transfer primaries following the example of Georgia and Louisiana.

The number of known cases of coronavirus infection in the United States has been increasing rapidly in the past few weeks and has already exceeded 5000. This has raised concerns that American hospitals will soon be crowded.

According to Johns Hopkins University and government health authorities, as of Tuesday, March 17, in the United States at least 85 people have died from the virus. The largest number of deaths were in Washington State, where on Monday, March 16, 6 new deaths were announced.

White House Coronavirus Coordinator Deborah Birks said that, in addition to recommending avoiding informal meetings, as well as closing bars, restaurants and other public places where local transmission of the virus is obvious, it is important that patients stay home.

“If everyone in the US does everything we ask for the next 15 days, we will see a significant difference,” said Birks.

The states of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut have concluded a regional agreement to close all cinemas, casinos, and sports halls from Monday evening, March 16th. Restaurants and bars in these three states, home to over 22 million people, will only work on takeaway and delivery.

McDonald's has announced that it will close landing areas and play areas in its own restaurants in the United States.

About 64 thousand schools were closed in at least 33 states. This, in particular, is about the two largest school systems in the country - the city of New York and Los Angeles.

The closure of schools disrupted the educational process, affecting at least 32,5 million students.

The epidemic has also caused great damage to American sport.

Major League Baseball has announced a new reschedule for the start of the 2020 season, which was originally scheduled for late March, following calls by US health authorities to cancel major social events.
