US evacuates 11 diplomats from China due to possible 'sonic attack'
The US State Department evacuated 11 employees from US diplomatic missions in several cities across the country from China.
The reason for the evacuation were diplomats' complaints about “abnormal sounds and sensations,” writes The New York Times.
According to the publication's source, 8 people were evacuated from the American consulate in Guangzhou, 1 person from the consulate in Shanghai and 2 people from the embassy in Beijing.
All of them were sent to the United States for medical examinations.
The State Department is investigating the incident, US Secretary General Mike Pompeo discussed this issue with his Chinese counterpart Wan I. by telephone.
This is not the first such case in China. 18 May is one of the American diplomats was evacuated from the consulate in Guangzhou due to indisposition after “strange sounds” he heard. Then the State Department announced a possible “sound attack”. An employee of the diplomatic mission in China said that he experienced the same symptoms as his colleagues in Cuba in 2017.
In August 2017 of the year at 16 employees of the US Embassy in Cuba nervous system problems were found due to "sound attacks". There are victims among Canadian diplomats and their relatives.
