American diplomats in Cuba found changes in the brain after a sound attack

Doctors who examine the condition of several dozen employees of the US Embassy in Cuba, discovered changes in the brain after diplomats complained about the “sound attack”. He writes about it Assosiated Press.

Medical tests and surveys have shown that deviations in the construction of white matter, which allows the exchange of information, are observed in various parts of the brain. White matter works as an information highway between brain cells.

Earlier 24 American Diplomat complained on the “sound attack”. Several diplomats reported hearing loss, one of whom had to wear a hearing aid.

What exactly caused changes in the white matter of the brain is unknown. According to Associated Press, sound waves could not lead to such an effect. Officials are now avoiding the term "sound attack".

Doctors, FBI investigators and US intelligence agencies spent months trying to find an explanation for the mysterious sounds in Havana.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Wednesday that he was “convinced that these were targeted attacks,” but the US does not know who is behind them. In addition to US employees, 2 employee of the Canadian Embassy suffered.

Doctors still cannot answer why the white matter of the brain has changed and how to explain the symptoms. US officials do not report whether changes were found in all 24 people.

Cuba categorically denies any involvement and calls the Trump administration’s claims that American workers are under attack as “deliberate lies.”

Doctors still do not know the long-term health consequences and expect that epidemiologists who monitor the incidence in populations will monitor the life and condition of 24 Americans. Consultations are currently underway with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

All embassy staff were ordered to leave the embassy building in Havana. There remain only those who perform the basic diplomatic and consular duties of the United States, including the provision of emergency assistance to American travelers in Cuba.

Recall, the US embassy was reopened in Havana in 2015, and in 2016, Barack Obama became the first US president since 1928 (when 30 US President Calvin Coolidge arrived in Cuba), who visited Cuba.
