On Sunday, March 26, 35-year-old Lana Clay-Monaghan enjoyed a rare moment of shopping at a Target store near her home in Tustin, California. After giving birth to twin boys eight months ago, a quick trip to her favorite store seemed to her, albeit a short one, but a vacation.

“I was a little nervous because summer was approaching, which means a lot of discounts,” she explained. “So I was very focused.”

Clay-Monaghan was choosing a baby soap and testing its ingredients when she "felt this thing hitting me."

“It immediately became dark all around,” Lana conveyed the sensations. “I started screaming, but this something was very close to my face, which did not allow me to breathe normally. I couldn't get free."

Clay-Monaghan, in her words, was so “suddenly scared and taken by surprise” that she began to wave her arms in an attempt to free herself from what the police later identified as a “bucket”.

“I took it off and looked around. There were several guys standing there. They had phones with which they filmed me and laughed,” she shared what she saw then. “I tried to say something, but nothing worked.”

The frightened customer several times intended to say: "Help me, I have epilepsy," but could not. Instead, Lana admitted, she "fell and hit her head on the ground."

A press release posted on Facebook by the Tustin Police Department said that "four underage boys walked into Target" at approximately 14:45 p.m., and then "one of them took a bucket and put it on the head of an adult customer."

“As a result of the incident, the customer lost consciousness. She was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and a police report was filed, the statement said. — The minors were likely trying to replicate the current trend on social media where they place a bucket on a stranger's head and film the person's reaction. There is no threat to the community at this time.”

According to Clay-Monaghan, she lost consciousness and only regained consciousness "in the ambulance, where she was asked questions."

“I was really disoriented, so I couldn’t come to my senses until I was in the hospital,” the victim said. “I thought I was in a firefight because the last thing I remembered was being in a public place.”

“When I woke up, I was told that I had become a victim of an attack,” she said. “My clothes were cut off.”

The victim said that she survived cancer when she was a child: at the age of 3 she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells. Although Lana has been in complete remission for over 20 years, she has long-term comorbidities related to her cancer, including epilepsy.

“One of the ironies in all this is that when I was transferred to a medical facility after the attack, it turned out to be the same hospital where I was treated for cancer,” the victim said.

A blood test revealed that she had an "acute heart problem" which she was told caused her to pass out after the attack.

“The doctor clearly said, 'As soon as you hit your head on the ground, you probably had a seizure,'” she reported the doctor as saying. - After all, what could knock you off your feet? You must have lost consciousness."

The Tustin Police Department is continuing to investigate the matter and is asking those with information to contact authorities. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the alleged attack.

A spokesperson for the store assured that "the safety of our guests and team members is Target's top priority."

“We sympathize with the victim of this incident and appreciate the efforts of our team members who provided immediate assistance to her,” the spokesperson said. “We take all forms of assault seriously and are working closely with the Tustin Police Department.”

Clay-Monaghan spent a total of five hours in the hospital before returning home to her family.

“It was so sad to see my husband’s face,” she admitted. “When people hit their heads on the ground, they don’t always come to their senses.” He was very scared for me."

As Lana said, she and her husband struggled with infertility for five years, and in the end, thanks to medical intervention, they had twin boys. Now she shudders at the thought of what would happen if her sons were with her.

“The feeling of not being safe is very stressful,” Clay-Monaghan added.

According to her, she "will not rest until someone is found and held accountable" because she wants "consequences" for these people.

The woman hopes her story will inspire parents to talk to their children about the so-called "challenges" on social media, which aim to ridicule a person by hurting him.

“So many families have written to me and said, 'I'm so sorry about what happened to you, but I want you to know that I sat down at the dinner table today to talk to my kids,'” Clay said. Monaghan.
