Poll: USA, Ukraine and Turkey are the main enemies for Russians
The Russians called the United States, Ukraine and Turkey the main enemies of the country, and the main friends are Belarus, Kazakhstan and China.
72% of respondents are hostile to the United States. Moreover, in May the attitude towards America worsened after stabilizing at the end of 2015. According to the deputy director of the Levada Center, Alexei Grazhdankin, this is due to the resentment of Russians towards Western countries that do not take into account Russia’s role in the victory in World War II.
Second place in the top three “enemies” with the highest rate in the entire history of observations is occupied by Ukraine – 48%. A year ago, 37% thought so.
A third of respondents called unfriendly Turkey. A year ago, before the incident with the Russian bomber, only 1% of Russians adhered to this opinion.
If we consider the first two “enemies” of Russia, we get the following dynamics:
USA
According to a May Levada Center poll, 70% of Russians have a negative view of the United States. This is not the highest figure for the period of such surveys - in January 2015 this figure was 81%.
Peak of friendliness to Americans fell on November 1991, then 80% of Russians were good to the United States. Now only 19% of Russian citizens love America.
Ukraine
A bad attitude is seen in 63% of Russians. However, two months ago, 64% disliked Ukrana.
The peak of friendliness to Ukrainians fell on December 1998, and November 2004, then 79% of Russians were good to Ukraine. In May of this year, these turned out to be only 26%.
Friends of Russia
The top five friends included Belarus (50% of Russians attributed it to a friendly country), Kazakhstan (39%), China (34%), India (18%) and Armenia (13%). Then follow Cuba and Syria with 10%.
