'He was the best': legendary rock guitarist Eddie van Halen dies
One of the founders of the popular 80s hard rock band Van Halen, Eddie van Halen, passed away after a long battle with throat cancer at the age of 65. The musician's death was reported by his son, writes with the BBC.
“I can’t believe I have to write this, but my father, Edward Louis Van Halen, has lost his long and difficult battle with throat cancer,” the musician’s son Wolf wrote on Instagram. “He was the best father you could ever ask for.” Every moment we shared on stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don't think I can fully recover from this loss. I love you very much, dad."
Van Halen began playing under this name in 1974. In the 1980s, Van Halen were the pioneers of heavy rock, their shows were usually accompanied by flashy flash-and-noise performances, and the musicians themselves appeared on stage in bright clothes and bouffants - a trend that became known as glam rock.
Van Halen has several Grammy awards. The group has not yet ceased to exist.
