'Irrecoverable loss': the grandson of the first president of Kazakhstan died

The 29-year-old grandson of the former President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has died in London. According to Kazakh media, the death of Aisultan Nazarbayev is believed to be cardiac arrest. Writes about it with the BBC.

“My family deeply mourns the death of our beloved Aisultan, and in this very difficult hour for us, we hope that the public will show understanding and respect for our irreparable loss,” the eldest daughter of the ex-president Dariga said in a message on the Nazarbayev Foundation website .

Aisultan Nazarbayev is the middle son of Dariga Nazarbayeva and the disgraced son-in-law of the former president, the late Rakhat Aliyev. After graduating from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, he was assigned to the staff of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.

In 2017, Aisultan worked for the Football Federation of Kazakhstan. In 10 days, on August 26, he would have turned 30.

In October 2018, a young man was convicted by a London court for resisting police officers under the influence of drugs, hitting and biting one of them. He received a suspended sentence; he was ordered to continue treatment for drug addiction and was fined.

According to the investigation, Aisultan Nazarbayev used cocaine. After the first hearing of the case, the judge released Aisultan from custody, provided that he would be immediately sent for treatment.

As far as is known, Nazarbayev eventually received treatment at Priory, a well-known private clinic for drug addicts, where various celebrities, such as musicians Amy Winehouse and Robbie Williams, footballer George Best and actor Johnny Depp, have undergone rehabilitation courses at various times.

Aisultan Nazarbayev himself admitted back in 2017 on his Facebook that he used drugs after the death of his father Rakhat Aliyev, the president’s son-in-law, who fled from Kazakhstan to Austria and, according to the official version, committed suicide there in prison. Then Aisultan Nazarbayev said that “his grandfather and the Almighty” helped him cope with addiction.

In February 2020, Aisultan Nazarbayev's Facebook page stated in the first person that he had applied to the British authorities for political asylum. This post stated that he is on bad terms with his relatives due to their "greed and gluttony". The tape also spoke of bad relations with his mother and an alleged corruption scheme for selling Kazakh gas to Russia.

In March of this year, it was revealed that expensive property in London, seized last year as “unjustified wealth,” turned out to be the property of the daughter of Kazakh leader Nursultan Nazarbayev, Dariga, and her eldest son, Nurali Aliyev.

A well-guarded mansion with an underground pool and a cinema on one of the country's most expensive streets, Bishops Avenue, a house in the prestigious Highgate area and a huge apartment in Chelsea were arrested at the request of British law enforcement agencies last spring. Then the authorities reported that the property was associated with a politically prominent figure, but did not give any addresses or names.
