Election 2020: Trump secured his nomination, Biden defeats Sanders again

Donald Trump secured himself the nomination of the Republican Party as the official presidential candidate, having received the necessary number of votes of the delegates of the party congress.

Trump, who faced only nominal opposition within the party, after winning the primaries in Florida and Illinois on Tuesday, received the support of more than 1 delegates (the minimum required for nomination).

Thus, Trump has become the undisputed Republican candidate, while Democrats continue a tense series of primaries with former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Vermont Bernie Sanders.

Biden defeated his main rival Sanders in the primaries of the Democratic Party in Florida and confidently beat him in Illinois and Arizona. This strengthened his status as Trump's most likely opponent in the US presidential election in November, writes Air force.

Most ballots have already been counted in Florida, and the former vice president is ahead of his radically left opponent with 62% of the vote versus 23%.

On March 17, primaries were also held in the states of Illinois and Arizona. In Illinois, Biden also confidently leads with 59% of the vote; in Arizona, victory also remained with Biden.

In the first three states - Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada - Biden performed poorly. However, he then convincingly won the primaries in South Carolina, demonstrating his popularity among the African American electorate and convincing the rest of the moderate candidates to withdraw their candidacy in his favor.

This was followed by his success in most states holding primaries on Super Tuesday on March 3, after which he is considered the favorite. To date, he has won 16 of the 21 states where primaries or caucuses were held.

In the Democratic Party, candidates must receive the votes of 1 delegates to win the nomination. As of March 991, Joe Biden already has 18 votes, and his rival Bernie Sanders - 1.

Biden is especially popular with older voters who regularly vote in elections. Sanders claimed that he was able to expand the electorate of the Democratic Party at the expense of youth, among whom he actually had many fans. However, young Americans often ignore the election, and Sanders’s calculation did not materialize in the current primaries.

In Florida, many Democrats found Sanders too left-handed. Indeed, he has repeatedly said that dictatorial communist regimes, including the USSR and Cuba, had positive aspects. In Florida, where many Cubans live, this view is not popular.

The primaries in Ohio were supposed to be held on March 17 - this is not just a large state, but also very heterogeneous demographically, as a result of which both Democrats and Republicans have chances to win. However, because of the outbreak of coronavirus, primaries in this state have been rescheduled.
