Several rural districts of Illinois have adopted resolutions establishing so-called shelters for gun owners in their territories, in response to an attempt by state legislatures to impose stricter gun control.

David Campbell, deputy head of government for Effingham County, explained that they had deliberately decided to use their right to bear arms to protect the now-popular word “shelter”, which was famous for discussions about immigration.

According to him, around 20 in other counties in Illinois, they asked Effingem to share an example of an adopted document on the status of “shelter” for gun owners. Copies of the document are also requested by local government officials in Oregon and Washington.

County officials are aware that their symbolic step is unlikely to be enough to stop state legislators from adopting new weapons control measures, but still, they believe that this may be enough to change their minds or even cause concern. some lawmakers.

Effingham district attorney Brian Kibler argues that the resolutions passed by the districts are not much different from the refusal of cities like Chicago to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
