On domestic flights in the United States will change the rules of departure

Beginning with 22 in January 2018, travelers whose ID cards (driving licenses) do not meet the requirements of the REAL ID Act, or those whose states fail to implement these requirements in time, will have to provide alternative ID cards when boarding domestic flights in the US.

This is stated in the message US Department of State.

The REAL ID Act was adopted in 2005 year as one of the steps to tighten the requirements for the identification of persons after the September 11 attacks on 2001. He puts more stringent requirements regarding the information provided for obtaining a driver's license, which is used as an ID at the state level.

The FBI recommended that the US government unify the requirements for obtaining these documents in all states in order to increase the level of control over their issuance.

An alternative ID for passengers with an old-style driver’s license may be a US passport in the form of a book or card.

ID-card can not be used for international flights, but it has several advantages, because of which you should think about its design.

Passport in the form of a card:

• Corresponds to REAL ID Act;
• It can be used to enter the US at border crossings and seaports upon arrival from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
• The card will cost $ 30 for adults who already have a passport in the form of a book, and $ 55 for those who are applying for the first time and do not have another type of passport;
• For citizens older than 16 years, the validity of the passport card is 10 years. If the applicant is less than 16 years old, the passport card is valid for 5 years.

How to get an ID card:

You can apply for a passport card at the same time as a passport application in book format. To do this, just check the box. Both in the form DS-11 or DS-82.
