Lufthansa canceled hundreds of flights on the eve of Thanksgiving Day
German airline Lufthansa on Wednesday 23 November cancels 876 flights due to a pilots strike, said the press service of the company.
It clarifies the airline, initially on this day it was planned about 3 thousands of flights, of which will be performed 2124. Flight cancellations will affect about 100 thousands of passengers around the world.
“Lufthansa apologizes to all its customers affected by the strike. […] Lufthansa is making every effort to keep customers as informed as possible and to provide them with the opportunity to use other airlines,” the carrier said in a statement.
The German civil aviation union, Cockpit, announced a regular strike strike on Wednesday for Lufthansa pilots and its subsidiary Eurowings.
The strike demanding a salary increase for pilots will begin at midnight CET and last for a day.
Pilots of the airline note that their salaries were frozen for 5 years, and they demand an increase of 3,6% for each year of freezing, that is, a total of more than 20%.
This will be the 14-i company pilots strike since April 2014.
