How Trump and Zelensky's telephone conversation led to a political scandal in the USA

How did it all start now?

What the presidents talked about is not exactly known. However, it is known that the conversation really bothered one American intelligence officer, who was supposedly familiar with all its contents. This became the reason for an internal investigation in the American intelligence services.

The American press, citing its own sources, writes that during a conversation with Zelensky, Trump asked him to assist in the investigation in Ukraine against former US Vice President Joe Biden or his son.

Joe Biden is one of the leaders of the Democratic Party and is considered to be Trump's most likely rival in the upcoming presidential election.

Trump critics are convinced that the president persuaded Zelensky to initiate an investigation in order to thereby damage the rating of his rival.

But what does Ukraine have to do with it, what kind of investigation can it start?

During the presidency of Barack Obama, Joe Biden oversaw the Ukrainian issue. At the same time, his son, Hunter Biden, was on the board of directors of the Ukrainian gas production company Burisma.

When the Prosecutor General’s Office was led by Viktor Shokin (2015-2016 years), an investigation was conducted on Burisma.

In the end, Shokin was released from his post, and Joe Biden said that this decision was his merit. Like, it was he who insisted on changing the head of the GPU.

At one time, this became the reason for a scandal surrounding Biden himself. Opponents suggested that he put pressure on Ukrainian justice in his own interests - to protect a company that is related to his son.

Joe Biden called the actions of the US President and his use of his office for election purposes “disgusting behavior” and called on the White House to release the recording of the telephone conversation with Zelensky.

“He used U.S. power and resources to pressure a sovereign country, a partner that remains under direct attack from Russia,” Biden said in a statement.

At the same time, Trump himself denies all accusations and says that opponents are deliberately inflating this story. He calls the conversation with Zelensky “ideally wonderful and routine.”

Trump does not rule out the publication of a transcript of his conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky after consulting him. He stated this to reporters, reports Фокус with reference to the Voice of America.

Trump promised to think about how his conversation with Zelensky can be made public.

“We will make a decision on how to make it public (the transcript of the conversation - ed.), to show what we talked about,” he said.

Trump added that he will consult with Zelensky on this issue.

“The problem is that when you talk to foreign leaders, you don't want them to feel like they shouldn't speak up. It's the same with the American president. You want them to be able to express their opinions without knowing that every word will be published to the whole world,” the US President said.

He also said that he knew about listening to his phone calls by many people, including scouts, but he allowed to do so.

It is known that the personal lawyer of the US President, Rudy Giuliani, has met with Ukrainian officials several times in recent months - in particular, Yuriy Lutsenko - and discussed with them the situation around Joe Biden.

However, in one of the interviews Giuliani contradicted himself. To the question “did you ask Ukraine to open an investigation against Biden?” he said that was not true. And to the question “did you ask Ukraine to take a closer look at Biden?” replied: “Yes, of course.”

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Priestayko, had time to comment on the story, who denied that Trump put pressure on Zelensky during a telephone conversation.
