Immigrants in the US are increasingly becoming victims of fraudsters: how to protect yourself

Fraudsters in the United States have begun to increasingly undertake scams against immigrant families.

Alex Martinez, an immigration lawyer from McAllen, Texas, told about this, who, according to him, noticed that the number of frauds against immigrant families has increased significantly, writes Valley central.

He explained that very often people are offered fake immigration services in order to extort money from them.

“There are a number of people who offer immigration services but are not trained to do so, or who completely fake these services to take money away from these poor families who are just trying to find help,” Martinez said.

Fake immigration services are not the only way to defraud immigrants.

“They receive phone calls from people claiming to be DHS, ICE or Border Patrol, asking them to send or wire them money for some service, such as bus tickets or other similar services,” he said. Border Patrol agent Patrick Reilly.

Fraudsters also often call relatives of detained illegal immigrants, posing as official officials, and asking them to provide money for food, blankets, tickets, or other services for their relatives.

Immigration agents emphasize that no federal agency will ever ask for money for any services, and the only reason they can contact relatives of detainees is to give them the opportunity to talk to relatives.

People who receive these calls are advised not to send any funds, and to save the details of the call, including the phone number, and report the incident to law enforcement.
