State Department urges Americans to leave Belarus immediately

On August 18, Lithuania closed two border crossings with Belarus. US Embassy in Belarus asks the Americans to leave the country immediately.

The Lithuanian government has closed two border crossings with Belarus at Tveretsius/Vidzy and Sumskas/Losha. Currently four border crossings are open: Medininkai/Kamenny Log, Lavorishkes/Kotlovka, Raigardas/Privalka and Šalchininkai/Benyakoni. Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have said further closures of border crossings are possible.

The State Department is asking Americans to refrain from entering Belarus due to Belarusian authorities continuing to facilitate Russia's unprovoked attack on Ukraine, Russian military buildup in Belarus, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, potential for civil unrest, risk of detention.

The US Embassy in Belarus has limited ability to assist Americans living in Belarus or traveling to Belarus.

All Americans are asked to immediately leave the country through the remaining border crossings with Lithuania and Latvia or by plane. US citizens are not allowed to enter Poland by land from Belarus.
