Jews in the US and Canada raised $750 million to help Israel
This week Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) announced the amount of aid collected from Jewish communities in the United States and Canada for Israel.
The total aid amount was US$750 million, collected during the first two months of the war. These funds were transferred to 472 Israeli public organizations and partners of the Jewish Federations.
$7,5 million was transferred directly to help victims of terror. Thanks to the funds raised, 190 thousand volunteers received first aid training; 538 thousand sets of clothing and essential goods were distributed; 1,2 million hot meals were provided to people and families evacuated from communities in southern and northern Israel.
Special assistance was provided to 25 Holocaust survivors, 140 elderly people, 69 new immigrants and 4 persons with disabilities.
The funds raised are used both for urgent humanitarian needs (purchase of medical equipment and provision of housing) and for the restoration and rehabilitation of communities and settlements.
Julie Platt, Chairman of the Board Jewish Federations of North America, stated: “For 100 years, even before the creation of the State of Israel, Jewish communities in the United States and Canada were the pillars of the Jewish State. We have helped Israel build cities, strengthen communities, and have always stood shoulder to shoulder with Israel in its darkest days. We still stand with Israel when the war rallied all Jewish communities around the Jewish state.”
