'This is the Duchess of Sussex': why Meghan Markle calls US senators
Meghan Markle continues her campaign for paid family leave and is personally addressing Senators on this matter. The edition told in more detail People.
The Duchess of Sussex addresses members of Congress as a concerned citizen by personally calling them on their phones. Senator Shelley Moore Capito said she was driving in her car when she received a call from a blocked number.
“Honestly, I thought it was Senator Joe Manchin. “He often calls from a blocked number,” said the Republican senator from West Virginia. “I answered and she said, ‘This is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.’”
Capito wondered: "I could not understand where she got my number from."
Meghan and Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins called, and also unexpectedly.
“I was happy to talk to her. But I’m more interested in what the people of Maine are telling me about it,” Collins said. “Much to my surprise, she called me on a private line and introduced herself as the Duchess of Sussex, which is quite ironic.”
Senator's spokesman Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, confirmed that she passed the Senatorial numbers to Meghan.

“I spoke to each of the female senators and told them that Meghan Markle was going to lend a helping hand. She's only made two calls so far,” Gillibrand explained. “She’s going to call others, but I’ll let them know in advance.”
Gillibrand clarified, “She wants to be part of the long-term paid vacation working group. Whether it is being implemented now or later, but she will be among the women who, I hope, will work on it together. ”
Last month, Meghan wrote an open letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“Over the past 20 months, the pandemic has exposed long-standing fault lines in our communities,” Markle said in her argument for paid national leave. “At an alarming rate, millions of women are quitting their jobs and staying home with their children. A working mother faces a conflict of interest: being with her child or earning money. Sacrificing one or the other is equally costly.”
Noting that the meaning of the American dream has changed somewhat over time (it's less about prosperity and more about simple stability), she said: “I grew up on the $4,99 salad bar at Sizzler—it might have been cheaper back then, but I I remember how hard my parents worked to afford it, because even for five bucks, eating out was something special, and I felt lucky.”

Both Meghan, 40, and Prince Harry, 37, recently took 20 weeks of parental leave in line with the policies of their Archewell Foundation.
“We knew we could dedicate everything and anything to our children and our family at this vital and sacred time,” Meghan wrote. “We knew that by doing this, we wouldn't have to make the impossible choices about child care, work and health care that many people have to make every day.”
“The families you represent need strong leadership,” Meghan urged senators. “Paid leave should be a national right.”
Pelosi announced that Democrats will include $ 1,75 trillion in paid family leave in social spending and climate policy. West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin is currently opposed to his inclusion.
