Two Russians arrested in Mexico: they transferred illegal immigrants across the American border

A couple of Russians, 48-year-old Andrei Myakotin and 41-year-old Olga Myakotina, as well as 28-year-old Francisco Xaviera from Sinaloa, were arrested in Tijuana (Mexico) with weapons and a suitcase containing $587. They are suspected of smuggling migrants. Writes about it american post.

Mexican authorities reported the arrest of a Russian couple and another person of Mexican origin suspected of smuggling migrants in the Mexican city of Tijuana, on the border with the United States.

The arrest took place near the border port of San Isidro.

Tijuana Minister of Security and Citizens Protection Fernando Sanchez Gonzalez confirmed that this arrest was made following the citizen's report. The official clarified that the case is related to the smuggling of migrants to the US border. At the same time, the arrested took money for their services.

“We know that people of Russian origin are looking for many mechanisms to enter the United States, and a situation of illegal trafficking of people of Russian ethnicity is probably being created, but the Attorney General’s Office will solve this problem,” he said.

According to the testimony of witnesses and preliminary information from the authorities themselves, these people daily went outside the place of detention to collect cash related to the illegal transportation of migrants of Russian, Mexican and European origin across the border.

For several months, authorities and the media have been reporting mass crossings that were constantly taking place through various points of the border wall, mainly through the nearby areas of the port of El Chaparal and the Tijuana beach area, writes The San Diego Union Tribune.

Groups of five, 10 and even 15 people are driven or on foot to these points on the border wall, where they are helped to cross the first metal fence of the wall, and then they surrender to the border guard in order to obtain asylum in the United States.

Sometimes it happened that migrants got stuck between one wall and another while waiting for the arrival of border guards. Sometimes it took several hours, or even days - in the cold, in the rain, without food and water.

“Arresting these people is just the tip of the whole problem. Surely there are many more who want to cash in on people who want to cross the border with the United States,” said the Director of the Movimiento Juventud 2000 pro-migrant organization, José Maria Garcia Lara.

The region is experiencing a record migration flow to the United States. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detained an unprecedented number of illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2022 - more than 2,76 million.
