American Airlines was left without pilots for Christmas because of a computer error

American Airlines stated that a computer error allowed too many pilots to plan vacation during a busy Christmas holiday, but did not indicate how many flights were left without pilots.

American Airlines uses a system that distributes vacation taking into account the schedule of flights and the availability of spare pilots. However, before Christmas, the system began to approve every application from crew members, showing that they could be replaced by other employees.
