10 of the happiest and most unhappy US states

Gallup and Sharecare publish their annual happiness and well-being rating in the U.S..

The welfare and happiness of Americans in 2017 was at its lowest level since the Great Recession of 2008.

Last year, America experienced the largest annual decline in welfare and happiness in the whole of history, these figures declined compared with 2016 in the 21 2016 year. In addition, 2017 year was the first year when no state has improved its last year figure.

Each state's well-being was calculated on a scale from 0 to 100, with 0 being the least happy and well-being and 100 being the highest. The overall assessment was based on five criteria:

Purpose: love for what you do every day, and motivation in achieving your goals;

Socialization: the presence in the life of the respondent of loved ones that you can rely on;

Finance: economic life of the respondent, which provides him with a sense of security and reduced stress.

Community: love for the place where you live, feeling safe and pride in your community;

Physical performance: good health and enough energy to do everyday work.

In 2017, 160 498 adult Americans, who are a representative sample, were surveyed to compile the rankings.

The ten most unhappy states included:

10. Rhode Island (60,48 points);

9. Indiana (60,39);

8. Nevada (60,18);

7. Ohio (60,03);

6. Kentucky (59,85);

5. Oklahoma (59,66);

4. Mississippi (59,59);

3. Arkansas (59,36);

2. Louisiana (58,93);

1. West Virginia (58,80).

The happiest recognized residents of such states:

10. Montana;

9. Utah;

8. Idaho;

7. New Hampshire;

6. Colorado;

5. North Dakota;

4. Minnesota;

3. Hawaii;

2. Vermont;

1. South Dakota.

New York took 23rd place on this list, California - 14th, Florida - 12th, Illinois - 36th.
