29-year-old "diver" who maintains a TikTok account under the nickname @dumpsterdivingwsoff, told about her unusual hobby.

"So much good food is being wasted when supermarkets know there are people who can't afford to eat," she said.

Jewel-Andersen was introduced to garbage can diving three years ago after her sister shared photos of good condition garbage can food.

“I was really struck by the amount of usefulness in these trash cans,” said Jewel-Andersen.

Amazed by how much her sister scored, the Dane decided to go straight into battle - literally.

At first, she chose only fresh produce, but eventually she began adding other foods to her catch.

“There were literally two trash cans behind the supermarket filled with packaged food: chickens, candy, drinks. We once found 300 cans of Diet Coke in boxes,” she said enthusiastically.

Jewel-Andersen is now fully committed to the quirky hack and has no plans to stop anytime soon: "Diving in dumpsters has become a rescue mission for me."

The frugal "diver" only conducts his missions strictly near supermarkets, because pulling food out of the trash cans of restaurants or private households may be illegal in some areas.

Most of the products found have to be thrown away, she said, because they were past their expiration date, the packaging was damaged, or they looked deformed.

Dumpster diving is a daily activity, Jouel-Andersen says, "it reduces food pollution."

“I once found 10 fully packaged Margherita pizzas, avocado, red pepper and some parsley, mixed the ingredients and served it to my friends for lunch,” she pointed out.

However, no matter how delicious the dish was, her friends found the life hack “super disgusting and just didn’t understand it.”

And while some people scorn the idea of ​​digging through the trash, Jewel-Andersen says she saves $400 a year on supermarket checks.

“Dumpster diving allows me to work less. “I have a four-day work week,” she explained. “It gives me a lot of financial and personal freedom.”
