Hackers stole data over 700 thousands of taxpayers

Hackers who hacked into the Federal Tax Administration (IRS) database last year obtained illegal access to confidential information in excess of 700 thousands of American taxpayers.

Last year, the IRS said that because of the May cyber attacks, hackers got access to 100 data of thousands of taxpayers. Later, in August, the number of victims of illegal actions increased to 300 thousands.

Now it is reported that another 390 of thousands of people have become victims of hackers.

As a rule, they were interested in the following information: social insurance, date of birth and address. They then used this information to log into the IRS system to verify previously entered personal data.

The latest security checks on the IRS computer system revealed that in a specified timeframe, a total of more than 1,2 a million hacking attempts had been made, 700 thousands of which were crowned with success. About 575 thousands of cyber attacks were prevented. This means that unknown hackers have personal information of almost a million Americans.

Last year, the FBI got involved in a case of hacker attacks on the federal tax administration. But it was not possible to find out the exact coordinates of the intruders.
