Air in California's cities has become the most polluted in the world.

Air quality in Northern California is still the worst in the world, say members of monitoring groups working across the state. This is a direct consequence of the forest fires that have been raging here lately.

According to the Purple Air organization, air quality in Northern California was even worse on Thursday than in the cities of India and China.

In local schools, lessons have already been canceled, airlines are postponing numerous flights, and the number of search queries that talk about respirators is constantly growing.

The death toll due to Camp fire is 77 people, and almost 1300 are considered missing. The fire has already become the most deadly and most destructive in the history of California.

How bad is the air?

The AirNow website rates the air conditions around San Francisco and Oakland as "very unhealthy." This means that anyone who ends up in this area could experience serious health problems.

Lizzy Johnson, a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, argues that regular San Francisco breathing is still equivalent to smoking 11,5 cigarettes, while closer to the forests where fires raged, this figure rises to 22 cigarettes.

Local authorities urge people not to risk their health and stay indoors.

"Wearing a mask may encourage people to go outside, but the best way to minimize the effects of smoke exposure is to stay indoors," the Sacramento Health Department said in a news release.

Recall that according to a preliminary weather forecast, this week in Paradise expected up to 5 inches of rain, and in the Bay Area from 1 to 2 inches.

Two storms, which are expected on Tuesday and Friday, will dramatically improve the air quality in California cities with smog from forest fires.

Expected winds will help drive out smoke and bring precipitation on Tuesday.

“There will be no instant cleaning, but the air will gradually be cleared with wind intensification,” said National Meteorological Service meteorologist Stephen Anderson. “On Wednesday after rainstorms, all remaining ash particles in the air should disappear.”

Gusts of wind that can reach 40 miles per hour can also impede the work of firefighters in the fight against fire.

There are also concerns that rain may cause landslides.

The Camp fire began near Paradise, which is located in 280 km north of San Francisco, on the night of November November. Almost 8 of thousands of people lived in the town, including many elderly people. Developers advertised Paradise as an ideal place to live after retirement, writes "Voice of America".

Camp Fire destroyed 10 500 homes and burned 150 000 acres of land (a territory the size of Chicago). Around 15 500 buildings are still at risk of fire. Currently, up to 400 people are involved in the search and recovery.

Camp has already been recognized as one of the deadliest fires in US history. Only two fires in the past led to more casualties: the Great 1910 fire of the year (87 dead) and the Minnesota fire of the 1918 year, which killed 450 people.
