Astronomical spring 2020 - the earliest in the last 124 years

The vernal equinox, which marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere, will take place on Thursday, March 19, throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. According to AccuWeather, this is the earliest equinox in 124 years.

The equinox usually falls on March 20 or 21.

The equinox of 2020 came earlier, because the year is a leap year, as a result of which the length of time during which the Earth made a revolution around the Sun has changed.

March 19, when the sun's rays are right at the equator, at 23:50 Eastern time, the equinox will come. For anyone outside the eastern time zone, this will be at 22:50 p.m. CDT, 21:50 p.m. MDT, and 20:50 p.m. PDT.

Thursday, March 19, which falls on the day of the equinox, will be one of two days of the year when the Earth's axis is not tilted either towards or away from the sun, as a result of which almost all over the Earth day and night last 12 hours. The second such day is the September equinox.
